Are Electricians licensed?
ans) Electricians working in the State of Virginia are required to be licensed by the by the "Virginia Department of Licensing and Regulation"
Are there different levels of Licensing?
ans) Yes, there are 3 levels of licensing for Electricians.
•Apprentice Electrician
Someone new to the trade is considered an Apprentice. Upon 4 years of supervised training and obtaining a passing score on an electrical exam, they become a Journeyman Electrician.
Journeyman Electrician
A Journeyman Electrician is able to work under supervision of a Master Electrician on any electrical project. They cannot work in any field without a Master Electrician.
At Crescent, all of the electricians we send to your home to work on your electrical system hold this license. To be a Journeyman Electrician,one must complete 8000 hours of work under a Master Electrician and pass a written exam.
•Master Electrician
A Master Electrician is just that, a Master. All electrical contracting companies MUST have a Master Electrician on board to oversee the electrical work being performed on a daily basis.
Do Electrical contractors need to have insurance?
ans) Yes, all electrical contracting companies must be licensed as an electrical contractor in the State of Virginia. This is designed to insure customer safety and protection by requiring the licensed company maintain a minimum adequate general liability and workers compensation insurance policy. It also requires the company to be directly supervised by a licensed Master Electrician.

You can check the status of any electrician or electrical repair company in the state of Virginia.

About Electrician In Fairfax Virginia
The Yoho Family emigrated from Germany to Philadelphia in 1742 and settled in western Pennsylvania. Our family moved to Washington D.C. during the great depression in hopes of securing work to support the family. Two brothers were first employed to upgrading the electrical wiring at the U.S. Capitol. A new career had been launched. After serving their country during WW 2, they started in 1948 what is now Crescent Electric Service Company, Inc.
Crescent Electric Master Electricians have passed electrical exams and received licenses for the District of Columbia and the states of Maryland, Virginia and WV. In our beginnings, DC voltage was the product and most fuses were located in the attic or the top floor and the wiring method was knob & tube. We are dedicated to keeping our staff trained in all areas of the rapidly changing electrical industry. Our Master Electricians complete the National Electrical Code Continuing Education Classes for each Jurisdiction we service. For your protection you can trust us for up-to-date training on job, tool and equipment safety.
